Two Philippine teams. Two medals. One proud moment for Filipino sepak takraw.

At the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, Philippine sepak takraw brought home silver in women’s doubles and bronze in men’s regu, giving Filipino fans plenty to celebrate.

SILVER: A HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENT FOR THE WOMEN

The Philippine women’s doubles team of Jean Marie Sucalit and Abegail Sinogbuhan, with substitute Nelly Jay Salon, reached the gold-medal match after defeating Laos in the semifinals, 15–12, 15–10.

In the final, the Filipinas faced Vietnam. Vietnam took the match in straight sets, 15–8, 15–5, giving the Philippines the silver medal.

But this was far from an ordinary silver.

It marked the best Asian Games finish ever for Philippine sepak takraw in the women's doubles event and the country's first appearance on the podium in this event.

After years of competing and coming home without a medal, the Philippine women's team finally had an Asian Games medal to bring home.

BRONZE: THE MEN STAND ON THE PODIUM

The Philippine men's regu team also delivered a medal.

Jason Huerte, Jom Lerry Rafael, Reynaldo Asilum Jr., Glindel Phori, and Ronsited Gabayeron battled their way into the semifinals against powerhouse Malaysia.

The Filipinos took the opening set, 15–10, but Malaysia fought back to win the next two sets, 11–15 and 7–15.

The semifinal result ended the Philippines' gold-medal hopes, but it secured a bronze medal for the men's regu team.

TWO MEDALS. ONE MESSAGE.

For Malitbog Sepak Takraw Community, these results are more than numbers on a medal table.

They are a reminder of what Filipino sepak takraw players can achieve when talent, discipline, teamwork, and years of hard work come together.

And every national athlete starts somewhere.

Before the national jersey, there is the local court.

Before the Asian Games, there are afternoons spent learning the basics, practicing touches, missing kicks, chasing the ball, playing with friends, and coming back the next day to try again.

That is what MSTC hopes to build here in Malitbog, Southern Leyte.

A place where former players can return.

A place where young athletes can discover the sport.

A place where beginners can learn without feeling intimidated.

And a place where the next generation of Filipino sepak takraw players can begin their own journey.
